Doc, Linux Mint keeps improving and making it more user friendly, but now their saying to upgrade to Rafaela from Cinnamon, do you know the difference and would you advise upgrading to it? Does it act the same? PJ

Rafaela is an OS release. A long term release, which means it will be supported 'till 2019. Cinnamon is the desktop that you see and interact with. Mate, LMDE and KDE are other desktops that would look different, but get loaded on top of Rafaela, or whichever OS release is available at the time. If you are using Cinnamon and like it, stick with it. If your OS is working fine and you don't have any issues like printing or networking, an upgrade is optional.

Paul - did you ever get your Linux wireless printing problem solved?

Tom

Thanks Greg, I like what I have and now and have no issues. I had a problem with the new wireless printer getting the message, but after inserting the proper driver, all's well there also. PJ

Tom, Yes I did, it was a driver problem. After downloading the printers driver and installing it everything came together and printer's working fine.

As a comparison, back in the 90's DOS was an OS and Windows was it's desktop. Microsoft called it a shell.

:iagree: If you have it in and working, no reason to start fussing unless you enjoy the challenge. More important to use the thing for the intended purposes than to introduce differences to "relearn," IMHO.

This box is a CEntOS 5.x, stable and functional. I prefer Gnome as my shell. If I build another machine as a replacement THEN it will be time for a more recent release. Boils down to: "If it ain't broke, don't frell with it!"

Memories, memories ...

I do have another question though. I downloaded the Evolution Email program to try it out and even though it downloaded ok, I can't seem to get it to install. I am using Tbird now, but wanted to try another program. Any quick solution why it won't install? PJ
