I saw this in Koppel PA today (near the PIRC race track....we're here for the 1st weekend of the PVGP).

Anyone you might know?

ps-I had a chance to chat with Jim Boffo yesterday (actually, he borrowed a wrench from me).

John was a few years my senior, only knew the family name. He was a contemporary of one of my cousins.

If ya see Jim again, please tell him I say: "Hello.' Haven't talked to him in much too long.

Are you satyin' at the track or mebbe one of the hotels near the Turnpike entrance?

No camping at track. Mommy doesn't allow it. ("If Momma's not happy, ain't nobody happy") :friendly_wink:

We used to stay at the Holiday Inn but it's pretty bad and crazy expensive ($145 / night). So now we stay at a newer Super 8 motel which is only about 1/2 mile further. It's just as bad but at least it's cheaper ($85 / night).

Most of our fellow guest were either racers or roughnecks working in the pipeline energy projects out here. The working guys are all decent and polite but they look like he11 (in a motorcycle gang-kind-of-way). Many from Ohio or southern states. The parking lot was filled with 3/4 diesel pickups owned by pipeline companies.

The Lark Motel is nearby. Looks old like maybe you would know it. They have a huge sign out front: "Pipeline Energy Workers Welcome". Most morning we've been stopping at "Al's Corner" for gas and breakfast.

I may see Boffo (he minds a car owned by one of my friends). But what name should I use (Skip?)

We left today and are in a hotel in Pittsburgh now (next weekend we race in Shenley Park). Just went to a street car show in Shadyside where there was a Disco Volante, a Gullwing, 8 Ferraris, a TR2, etc. Not exactly cruise night at MacDonalds.

Local scenes in Koppel (the Subway is new). I'm standing in Al's Corner.

Saw this sign on 18 across from the track: "Snapping Turtle Removal"

That Holiday Inn was always a puzzle, no idea how it kept going. Went up in the mid-sixties. The Super 8 may look newer.

The Subway location used to be a place called Phil's Tavern. Fire took it out. Put a crimp in the Koppel '90's night life. :smirk: That shot looking down Arthur you can see one of the former Babcock & Wilcox plant buildings.

The Lark Motel went up in the early '60's. It used to be an open piece of land with raspberry bushes. As kids we would pick 'em and grandmother would bake pies. The three houses after that lot are where my Uncle, grandparents and my family lived. One place those turtles can be found is in the "creek" area north of the last house, in the small valley area just before Koppel.

Sounds like the car show was worthwhile. Enjoy the park!
