My wife Lynda and i went to The coast of North Carolina last saturday for a couple of days. We were to stay with friends that rented a 4 bed room house right at the beach. We arrived before check in and before our friends. So we went to the rental office and for some reason they actually gave us the keys. We got in the house and then wanted a coffee. So we hop into the Miata and head out to the main drag. We found a coffee shop and as we were about to pull in we saw it! A nasty rusty white rubber bumper MGB sitting in a fenced boat yard. I said to Lynda that i did not even need to check it out. We have too many cars around already. That got me many brownie points. So we headed for the door of the flying pig coffee house. Wouldn't you know it its 10 to 2 and they close at 2. BUT the door is locked and they closed early that saturday. Not a problem we'll just find another. As we are heading for the car Lynda spots a craft store across the street. She says i'll walk-why don't you bring the car over. I say no problem. Now do i head right over to the craft shop? Heck no.The gate is open and a elderly gentleman is hanging around. I walk up and ask whats up with the MG and is it for sale? He replies that a fellow offered him ...Ready..$80 bucks for it and has never returned! So stupid me asks what he will take for it now. He replies how about $100. I say let me look at it. The last tag and inspection is 1986 and the car is a 79.The shifter was what i wanted to see. Yep O/D and 3 of the tires had air. I could see part of the O/d unit since it was not slammed on the ground! Done deal. Speedometer reads 67,000 miles. Might get a good crankshaft or head along with that O/D! We headed back to the beach this morning and i flipped the owner a extra $20 for getting it out of the corner for us. They are still out there! Bob
