DM6 distributor replacement

Since I'm with fuel injection the distributor will be stripped of it's innards. So I thought rather than modify the original I would go with a modern design with maybe better and rotor availability. My car is a 1960 3000 BN7. I plan to go with an electronic tach so that shouldn't be a problem. Does anyone know of a good aftermarket distributor that will fit? Say like a Mallory.

John

Hi John

If you are dispensing with the innards of the DM6, what are you going to do with the bits, I am looking for some spare bits for my DM6A, in particular the three fingered clamp that holds the base plates together, the parts my be interchangeable.

Hi Bob,
I'm taking the guts out of the Mallory distributor and using it. I will probably keep the DM6A since I didn't want to use it in this application.

Thanks for the reply John,
I had a result this morning, I picked up a second hand plate complete, so I am sorted thanks. I have also received a reply from the Distributer Doctor on this side of the pond and I could have bought the parts from him - worth knowing if you are ever in trouble.

John,
I hadn't heard about your EFI effort until now so pardon me if I'm late to the discussion. What ECU are you using? I'm using a GM ECU. ECU's like a nice clean signal from the distributer. I tried multiple distributor solutions before taking a 6 cyl. GM HEI EFI dist. and had it machined to fit. That solved my dist. issues. The ECU got the clean signal it wanted and the curve could be controlled by the ECU. The dist. can be bought at salvage yards or on EBAY for $50 or less. You can also get Mallory versions of those distributors if you'd rather. FWIW

Have fun with the project.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,
It's an Omex ecu. I have done several other conversions on different makes, but this is the first time I've used them. The kit (so to speak) is from AHSpares.

John,
Not familiar with that one. So, it sounds like they didn't provide guidance on the dist. solution for their kit?... or maybe you weren't happy with their recommendation.

Hi Steve,
Their suggestion was to gut the original distributor. I could have done that, but preferred to use a new distributor and leave the original alone.
