Distributor won't come out!!

I need to tune up my 73 GT after getting the head back on. The distributor won't turn and I can't get it out of the block. The car had sat for two years before I got it. I have squirted a corrosion inhibitor down the sides of the distributor as best as I can. I even GENTLEY pryed up on the attaching plate after I got it's bolts out. Any suggestions.

How many bolts/nuts have you loosened?

Both of the mounting(???) plate. It swings around the dist. as I lossened the bolt for it too.

Have you 'bumped' the key?

Bruce, the only time I had a distributor stick like that, I used a bunch of penetrating oil around the base, and then used a rubber strap wrench to gently twist it free. The key word is gently.

I'll try both tomorrow. Just got in from a run starting at Stewarts Point and ending in Mendocino before heading back to Ukiah. Unfortunately it was in a Bookmobile not an MG.

Tony, When I got the GT together, I decide not to change the timing as it was running OK before. I changed the head, set the valves, and the car wanted to start but wouldn't. I check the fuel supply (lots of it) and then hooked up my timing light and pointed at me when I tried to start again. Lots of light, so a strong pulse. I change plugs and the car started right up. I took the GT out for a spin and the car started back firing (seems like only one cylinder). The car would be sluggish (after a couple of mile) and would suddenly come on around 2500 RPM. I thought the timing might be off. The carbs are ok. I am putting new wires in tomorrow night. Any other suggestions on where to look.

I bump the key and the distributor did not loosen, I tried to put a strap wrench on it but the vacume advance is in the way so I can't get a good grip. Any other sugestions. I have got it out about a quarter of an inch and now it will not go back in.

Repeated application of penetrant and TIME... PB Blaster. Patience.

Don't try to force it back in...lots of PB Blaster all around the shaft

I read what you said about backfiring & sluggisg running...I hope the dog pin hasn't broken or slipped out & let the dog come loose & spin around to hook

...can you turn the distributor shaft from the rotor button end?

No, it is tight so the dog is intact. Could the o ring be stuck on the side of the dist hole??

Tight and corroded... let the weasel pee (PBBlaster) do it's job... soak it repeatedly, and walk away for a bit.

Yep, I agree with Doc - PB Blaster overnight...soak the heck out of it

I have not seen PB Blaster before. I guess I have to go to the auto parts tomorrow and get some. I have been using Fluid Film. Well, I'll stay out of the garage tonight. That is too bad because the plug wires are the same color (blue) as the car and engine paint.

Engine is blue? Ford Blue?

A nice English Ford GRAY, mebbe?

Wife thought it was cute to paint it blue so the car is color coordinated. She, also, picked out the best show steers because they had a pretty head!!!
