Distributor removal?

if you disassembly completely. like pulling the tach gear out and the shaft and weights out make sure you mark the way the sloted piece that goes into the gear is orientated, its possible to get it 180 degrees out of phase, took mine apart and found the advance weights were rusted together, put it back together and and car wouldnt start had to pull the dist out again, at least you have only a 50 50 chance to get it backwards

The good news is if you just pull the distributor straight up and out and don't touch that dog gear that's left at the bottom of the shaft you can't put the distributor back in wrong. It will only fit one way as the gear slot is slightly off set by about 1/32".

bob you are correct but I was speaking about the mating piece that come out with the dist, if you want to completely dis assembly the dist you push out the pin that runs thu the mating piece and pull the shaft out thats the one that you can get 180 degrees out of phase , I wish I had a photo to show but I dont
 
Why???

You are describing the distributor drive. Unless you plan on disassembling the distributor should be no need to remove it.

I recommend sending the entire distributor to Jeff Palya at Advanced Distributors. Don't think you're gonna find a better distributor problem resolver/rebuilder....
 
Ron- I think you are getting your "Jeffs" mixed up.... I think you meant Jeff Schlemmer at Advanced Distributors.
 
I'd bet that you would be very happy with your distributor and car's performance if you did send it off. Jeff has a very fast turnaround time. Mine was back in the engine 8 days from the time I brought it to the Post Office.
