Greetings all! I'm new to this forum and this is my first post!

My question concerns the removal of the distributor from an AH 3000 BJ7. First some background: This is an early model MKII with gear-driven tacho; with the distributor attachments bolts completely removed and the clamp bolt loosened, the distributor will move up but appears to "catch". The distributor drive rotates freely but still refuses to separate from the assembly.

I would like to install another distributor that's in better condition,less bushing ware and possibly better more steady dwell readings. Any ideas? Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

Try twisting the distributor as you're pulling it up and out--the gears are spiral cut.

You can have your distributor rebuilt or probably buy one that has already been rebushed, etc. from any of the usual suspects. If you want to trade up to an elctronic ignition system it would be a good time--either using your present distributor or by installing an aftermarket such as Mallory.

What the aproximate cost, turn around and recommended rebuilder of a DM6 from a 60 BT7? Mine is due but I can wait until the rainy season starts. :smile:

I would contact a British Car shop in your area or someone with whom you have had good experience--I don't know that they all do their own distributor work and there are also shops that specialize in just that but you'd probalby want to start with someone who is familiar with Lucas distys.

If you are removing the top only, you have to remove the tach drive. This takes a very large socket. Otherwise the whole unit should slip out. The manual says don't loosen the clamp bolt.
