Distributor Question

I guess I am basically lazy or I could just pull my present distributor out of my 66" XKE and look at it closely. However, maybe someone can answer this. I have a Lucas distributor that I've had lying around for sometime. It has #40887D stamped on it, and a number 963 under this other number. I am pretty sure it is from an earlier Jag I had. I also have a Piranha electronic ignition for a Lucas Type 22 or 25D distributor that was given to me a few years ago, and I was tod this would fit my Jag. It waaas given to me by the owner of a 64 Jag.

Is this the right distributor for my 4.2 XKE and is it the right Piranha system for it? Of course, I could build the Piranha into my present distributor, but would prefer to do it to the backup.

Thanks,
Mike Yoh

Your old distributor is probably for a 3.8 but it will fit your 66, these models have the same distributor drive and shaft dimensions. If you want to convert to a solid state ignition system I would recommend either the XJ6 series 3 ditributor and amplifier which is a drop in and a very good system. That would require getting a series 3 XJ6 distributor. The next best thing to that is the Pertronic solid state ignition which would convert either of your distributors. I have never used a Piahrana and cannot comment on that kit.
