I ordered new springs for the distributor flyweights. The "kit" came with 5 springs. I am assuming two "heavy" springs, and two "light" springs. What is the fifth spring?

On my 4A, it uses two different weight springs, lighter on one weight and heavier on the other. So your kit might contain a couple different weight combinations for tuning.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif It's not a "heavy" pair and a "light" pair, it's an assortment.

As PeterK notes,it's standard for there to be two different springs, giving an advance curve with a 'kink' in it. Generally only the lighter spring is functional at low rpm, giving faster advance until the heavier spring becomes tight, thereby giving slower advance out to max rpm.

I'd ask whoever sold them to you what each spring is, and which two are correct for your application. Or just pick one heavy and one light and throw them in; since the original advance curve wasn't optimum then and won't be optimum now.
