TR6 Distributor improvements

I've just finished rebuilding (and improving, I think) my distributor.

Nice work. Could you tap the vacuum unit on the other side of the diaghram from where the hose attaches now, and then connect there? That should turn it into an advance unit (don't connect the retard side fitting).

I considered this, but that side of the diaphragm isn't sealed around the actuating rod. Moss sells a special capsule with the port on the opposite side as you suggest, but it also has a seal on the actuator rod. That is probably the option I would use if I go to vacuum advance.
