Does anyone know who has the distributor caps with the brass terminals? I bought an aftermarket cap and I just don't like the look of it compared to the quality and the build of the one I had on there.
In general, I feel TRF supplies the best quality available. If they don't have them in brass, likely no one does.
But I haven't bought a cap for a long time. They seem to last nearly forever with stock ignition, so I don't replace them just for PM. Only failure I've ever had was running a MSD 6A ignition box (which managed to trash every high tension component at one time or another; the coil went right after the distributor cap).
have 3 new distributor caps, after market--bought from 3 different suppliers-none of the 3 seat properly on any of the 5/6 distributors--that I have-- (4 cylinder) DM2----I went to
my parts box and dug out an old cap that wasn't too bad--has anyone else had problems with after market caps?
As Randall says TRF might have the good ones. It's the old get what you pay for thing. The cheap ones are $10.00 and TRF has them for $28.00. Anyone bought one from TRF lately and know if they have those brass terminals inside? Also I'd be a bit leery of the top mounted caps. I tried one once and it was all good until the rotor wore down the brush to a nub and stopped the car dead on a cold and rainy night.:grumpy:
Yes TRF has the caps with the brass terminals. However the caps do have another problem and that is that the screw in connectors for the deep set rear two wires is set back to far in the hole for the spark plug wire. Like .10" from the rear of the hole. Getting your wire to make contact and not pull out is a crap shoot. I always use a voltmeter to make sure the wires make contact and on these caps I get a positive result about half the time.
My distributor caps (and my coils) are all the old stuff bought mostly on eBay. If you are not in a hurry you can do a bit of bottom-feeding and pick good used or even NOS at a reasonable price.
