I see that two contacts on my distributor cap for my “Race” distributor are worn with grooves. Clearly, the rotor cut those grooves. I’m having some issues stalling etc., and I’m chasing culprits. Are those grooves a problem? Do they represent mismatching by the manufacturer? Cap to rotor? Seems like another example where I should’ve kept the old distributor and left well enough alone.
 
The rotor should not contact the posts inside the cap. But, unless that caused a crack or other damage, that should not cause the running trouble. Well...now that I think about it maybe. If the cap was fabricated off center and the rotor hits on one side, then that would mean the rotor is farther away from the posts on the other side. So it could cause a weak spark on the far side posts where the spark has a larger air gap.
