Disposing of a car

How would one dispose of a car cheeaply (and legally) if it doesn't roll? Local yards will pick up a rolling chassis for $75 but this one doesn't have a rear axle. It's an MGB if that matters.

Advertise in your club newsletter...someone might want the shell for a trailer...for spares...for practice welding...etc.

Also check with a local high school trade program...they might want it for the same reasons....prctice welding, etc.

It's already been advertised for some time with no takers. It belongs to someone else and I'm stripping what few parts are worth saving. But I can only have the parts if I can get rid of the shell when I'm done. The shell itself is a pretty rotten '67 roadster.

I wouldn't even consider crushing an MG unless it wasn't worth saving. Even the dash area has been butchered. I guess the rear bulkhead could be cut out as a patch for someone else with speaker holes. Doors aren't beyond saving but I can't store those. There really insn't much left of the car anyway, it's mostly a rolling shell. There is a '74 that is more complete including short block and gearbox but i have no use for later model parts.

If you own or can rent an Oxy/Acetylene torch set cut it up into small pieces and haul it off the the scrap yard. you`ll even make a few bucks, Mabe enough to pay for the torch rental or tank refills.

I had the same plight with a 1972 Datsun 510 wagon. Thought maybe someone would want it for the parts (glass, drive train, etc) but never had any takers. Luckily, scrap metal prices are high enough here now that the salvage yards will pick them up for free - even if they have to drive a bit. Took a few calls but they finally picked it up.

BTW, this was my daily driver for several years up until about 5 or 6 years ago. Bought it for $300 and drove it for 2 or 3 years. It was running rough at first - the carburetor body was separating - screws were about to fall out of it. I did replace the generator once - cost $30 with exchange. And had to replace the fuel tank filler hoses and clean up the wiper linkages to keep them working. Talking about cheap transportation - and kinda fun too. But a drastic change from the MB 190E that I was driving before.

How far to Baldwin Park, or El Monte? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

About 10 miles to Baldwin Park. You want it? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Steve,

You probably already know this.
In California you're supposed to get a
savage title on any car before you start
stripping it.
The wrecking yard here will take it
for free - it just needs to be delivered
to them.

WOW!! Life's tough in California! If I want to get rid of an old hulk, I have a couple of options: pull it onto my trailer & take to my friend's salvage yard or call the scrap man who'll come over & haul it away for nothing!

& scrap's up right now so its worth something!

I cut 'em up & leave them in the dumpster at work.

Na, I lived there years ago, it was just an obscure reference to a place you might consider abandoning the car! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
