Display of Restored Classic Cars in Raleigh NC

For those who may be interested, a display of flawlessly restored classic cars has recently been put on show in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the North Hills Shopping Center just off I-440 at Six Forks Rd. It is inside the former StoreHouse Furniture store (now out-of-business) adjacent to Lassiter Mill Rd. I have no idea how long it will remain there.

It includes an Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II, a Jaguar XK120, a Porsche 356, a Mercedes SL convertible, a Citroen Traction-Avant, a Moto Guzzi motorcycle, and others.

The cars are inside the store and it seems to be locked up but you can see them through the window and there are very informative and well-written description cards by each car.

I think it may be an advertising thing for Peak of Apex, the restoration place. I am not connected in any way with this company.

That is a neat looking Jag. I have never seen one like that.
The 3000 MKII and the Jag were both restored very nicely from what I could see. I guess there were a few other cars in there also but I didn't pay too much attention to those. I have never heard of that restoration company before. I'll have to check them out to see what kind of services they do.

I grew up in North Hills (at the corner of Pamlico and Rowan, just behind what used to be called the North Hills Plaza) and I haven't been back there since selling my late father's house in 1999. I've been told that the changes there would break my heart. I'd like to see the cars but emotionally I don't think I could do it. I'm glad you guys got a chance to see the cars.

Doug,

You would not recognize it at all if you have not seen it

since 1999. I also grew up in the area but I am probably older

than you and that is why we never crossed paths at school or

something.

Doug and Ed,

I grew up in Durham and it was a "big deal" to go to North Hills way back then. Soon Crabtree Valley Mall opened and NH fell on hard times. I worked in the area of NH for the last three years of work before retiring to Oriental a year ago and saw it come back to life. Not bad, but the congestion during holidays is horrible. I will have to check out the cars when I am back in that area next week.

My parents built their home there before the original mall or plaza were built. I remember flying kites on the fields there and later I remember watching construction through windows in the plywood walls around the site. My dad and a bunch of the neighbors joined together and got the developer to sign a 40 year agreement to leave a buffer zone between our houses and the plaza. The 40 years ran out in 2001. I've been told that as soon as the agreement expired the new owner immediately began construction on rather tall condos. I used to be able to walk out on the front porch and see a natural area full of trees and brush across the street. I understand that if I return today, I'd see towering buildings butting right up against the street, looming over my old home. Good for the builder, bad for the home-owner. I don't think I'll go back to see it for myself.
