Disappointment in Hardware kit

Well, I sort of threw good money down the rat hole. I purchased the hardware kits to mount the front and rear wings. Well, much to my disappointment, the front kit came with standard washers, not the "D" washers with the offset hole. The rear kit also came with standard washers, not the larger fender washers that are used there and of course do not match the paper washers.

Oh, the 4 spires nut around the tail light hole in the rear had to be ground down to fit.

Maybe it is time to try Rimmer Bros. as it seems they have the right hardware.

Other then that I had a good day, and put up the tree.

A usually reputable major supplier. The other usually reputable major supplier was up front on the spire clip issue needing grinding.

Rimmer has the spire nuts at ÂŁ1.56 inc. VAT each and the "D" washers at ÂŁ0.59 inc. VAT each, both pricey and probably why they are not sold here. Looks like a trip to the local hardware store for the fender washers for the ones that are rusted then clean up the others, as well as cleaning and hammer out the "D" washers, except for two beyond repair. Should not be to hard to fabricate two of them.

Some may say I am being petty, but the larger "D" and fender washers are used to minimize bending the sheet metal where the acme screws attach the panels.

Ray- call your supplier and let him know your disappointment. Tell them you will be returning it and would like a full refund.
But make sure they know why.

Ray,

I bought a hardware kit from TRF and it was fine. Every washer was a D shape that needed to be and every clip fit perfectly. There was nothing missing from the kit at all.

After that and before I was done, I decided to go stainless and bought a nice kit here: https://www.mmsacc-stainless.com/html/Misc_Body.htm

As you will see, it does NOT include the J clips, so I used the clips from the TRF set, as they are under the fenders and a little POR15 sealed them right up.

Tush,

We must have posted the same results at the same time.

Cheers!!

Actually it was TRF, but a year or so ago, I should have been more careful in my inspection of the parts. The J clips I referred to are the four found on the rear fender tail light housing to the tub which are shorter then the ones used elsewhere. Neither Moss or TRF provides the correct clip. The washers for the rear fender were standard, not the larger fender washers that should be used, they did not even cover the paper washers. The acme screws, J clips, and paper washers were fine.

Paul, from what you say, it looks like they have corrected their ways, I'll dig through my paper work and drop them a note on the washer issue. We'll see what happens.

End of rant.

Hello everyone-
This is just my experience buying fasteners.... I have had much success using two companies in the UK for fasteners. One is Bresco Fasteners, and the other is Grove Components. Both shipped promptly and offered excellent customer service. The fasteners were just what I ordered and could not source in the US.
https://bresco.com/index.html
https://www.groveco.co.uk/
Grove Components has lots of stainless fasteners for classic cars like ours.
The company that I have not used yet, but comes highly reccommended is Woolies.
They do interior trim as well as fasteners.

Hope this info helps someone.
