My dimmer switch failed and the new one that is on order may take several weeks to get here. I want to make the best out of what's left of the driving season so I'm wondering what would be the best way to temporarily disconnect the high beams only so I can drive at night without binding anyone?

Karl - unless I'm missing something, just disconnect the leads going to that dimmer switch. If the leads aren't running through the dimmer switch, the high beams can't light up.

Karl - good question. Check the proper wiring diagram to be sure.

Or even easier determine which wires go to the bright lights at the headlights and disconnect those wires near the horns. There are three wires to each headlight. I believe a blue/white, blue/red and black. Of course black is the ground and one of the others is the high beam lights. That is if your dimmer switch is allowing anything to go through. I have had them just stop all electrical flow to the lights. If that were the case then you could go to the dimmer switch wires and make a jumper wire straight through for whichever color wire you wished. And leave the other wire disconnected and covered or protected. You could still have some power going to one of those wires. Better safe than sorry.

The high/low beam switch turns on EITHER the high or low beams; not both. You could just remove the switch and connect the power-supply wire to the one going to the low beams.

That said, these switches are pretty generic. You might be able to find something locally to replace it.
