Differential Oil?

Greetings all:

I had the diffy taken out 3 years ago and all the leaking seals replaced by professional mechanics. TRF seals. The seals
are now leaking again- not much.

I have the car on jackstands. What grade oil do I use to top off the differential?

A popular debate, no clear consensus. The book calls for SAE 90 GL4.

My personal preference is Valvoline SynPower Gear Oil, which is a 75W90 full synthetic GL5 (but does not use the "active sulfur" additive that can damage the brass thrust washers used in Triumph diffs). I use it in all my Triumphs, including the Stags (which have a diff nearly identical to the TR6, but behind a V8).

When in doubt, or if you cannot source what Randall referenced, use GL4

Don't know the IRS diff, but is there a vent on the IRS diff and if so is it clean?

The IRS differential has a vent. I think it's exactly the same kind as well.

So Dale, have you checked to make sure that the vent isn't blocked?
