TR6 Differences in ZS carbs for emissions TR6s

Hi guys - trying to help a friend get his 1976 TR6 through SMOG. We're within CO2 limits now but the last shop to work on it "overhauled" and re-routed the lines into / ut of the charcoal canister.

The carbs on there now do NOT have the secondary vent link that goes near the carb mouth that mates to the air cleaner.

On my 1974 there is a vent link about where the red arrow is, on the 1976 in question there is no second vent line.

Ideas?

Must be someone swapped the carbs then. According to Nelson's chart, only pre-1973 TR6 lacked the bowl vent line & valve.

Now that your smog tester has noticed the lines being wrong, likely the only solution is to find some later carbs, or move to a different area that doesn't require smog check on a 76 TR6. I'm guessing that NYC is similar to CA : no exemption for 'tampered' vehicles.

However, your friend probably has legal recourse against the shop that did the tampering. They might pay for another set of carbs if your buddy agrees not to sue them. It's a federal offense to re-route the vacuum lines even if they aren't the ones that installed the wrong carbs.

Yep, those are pre 73 carbs, that lack the separate float chamber vent for idle speed, which is also the port for the Anti Run-on Valve.

Interesting, Move the NC their is no inspection or smog testing of vehicles that are over 30 years old
