Differences in BJ7s

During a wiring discussion it was mentioned that there are differences in the BJ7 model. I think of the BJ7 as a transition model. Mine is a 1963. I'd like to find out more on this topic. Please add to the list.

Here's a few that come to mind.

1) There are two different clutches. The engine number is a clue. From the AH Spares web site: Two choices; BN7-BJ7(E)29F4878 or BJ7(E)29F4879-BJ8. Mine engine number ends with 2843.

2) I just learned that some BJ7s do not have a starter button. Mine does.

3) Three wiring diagrams in the Bentley manual labeled: early cars, late cars, and one with no extra designation. My BJ7 is the last one.

Some BJ7s (a very few most likely sent to European destinations) had the lighting arrangements of a BJ8 but the dash of a BJ7. Mine included. You will play 'ell getting a wiring diagram or a new wiring harness for one of these. You can either pick a wiring harness from an early car which has the brake/indicator light relay but the correct dash layout or pick a wiring harness from a BJ8 which does not incorporate a brake/indicator light relay but has the dash layout of a BJ8. I chose the former thinking it would be easier if the dash wiring layout was correct. I'm not sure that was the best answer. Especially since my ignition switch was not in the traditional location anyway.
