I need to replace the pinion seal on my diff. It is a 3:27 out of a GT6 in a mk3 spit. The diff as far as I can figure out is a type D with the number on the bottom being KC71082. It has a castle nut on the Pinion shaft. As I understand it, there is no need to count threads when removing this type of nut. Correct?
What is the procedure for re-torqueing the nut?
How many foot-pounds of torque is needed?
Do I need to worry about pre-load? If so, how much is it and how do I check/set it?
That should do it for now. More questions will ensue I am sure. I know almost nil about diffs.
