Did you paint your M/C?

I powdercoated mine black. Considered using a cast iron powder color or clear, but decided to stick with black. I think original is uncoated cast iron, but I wanted to stop future rusting. Having it painted makes it much easier to keep everything clean.

I have.. or had three dual masters sitting in my basement. One looks like it was painted balck, another looks like it was painted green. The paint was only on the cast iron, not the aluminum plates. I would not paint them unless you are using a silicone fluid. The gerilng fluid will take paint right off. Colin's idea to powder coat makes better sense.

I plan to use silicone fluid so was not concerned about the paint removal problem. Although powder coat finishes are harder and more durable, they are also easily removed with regular paint strippers, so I wouldn't assume they are impervious to brake fluids. Also powder paints come in several types: epoxy, polyester and silicone. Polyesters are better for UV resistance, epoxy better for chemical resistance and silicone better for high temperatures. I'm using epoxy powder with silicone fluid so don't expect a problem. But I'd test first if I was using a regular fluid.
