hmmm... never gave it much thought, that must have started well after I'd been taught to wire a house.
 
I didn't know #2. I don't think I'll ever use it since I always have wire cutters with me when I do electrical.

Yes. After you've done any electrical work, it's a simple thing to know how much to strip. Wire cutter/stripper: Klein "linemans pliers." Phillips and slot head screw sticks, that is about all needed to do most non-commercial electrical jobs.
