I've seen those lines all my life and had no idea they served any purpose other than decoration.
 
Like the lines/ridges on a (red) Solo cup.......right there in front of us and we didn't even know it.......
 
I guess all fire companies and rescue crews know this stuff, but I always thought those lines were just a normal school bus paint design. Now I know they are but never had a clue why. :rolleyes2:
