BJ8 4000 miles since total rebuild. I have heard a tickle of pinging a few times just off idle pulling away from a stop. The timing is set correctly and there are no other times it pings, should I retard the vacuum ?

My AH have some trouble at the switching off, disappeared using 100 octane fuel
also my engine are new and probably- sports cam and more compression need better fuel

Mine is a BJ8 engine with a 10 to 1 head and 10 degrees BTDC strobes with vacuum advance off and an 850 rpm tick over, it never pinks.

Check the points gap and strobe again.

It turned out to be an easy fix, I set the timing incorrectly a short time back but since it only pinged just off idle during warmer days I didn't notice it til now. Reset at 10 deg. and all is well.
