Just thought I'd see if there are any others out near me that could share their insights and perhaps give me a hand now and then. of course I'd be eager to come and help anyone else that needs a hand too.

I am also in the market for an MGA in the Denver area if anyone in my end of the woods knows of a car for sale.

Hey Jay,

I'm still around.....I've been driving the Bugeye exclusively since the Swift GT died a few months back. I just bought a parts car that is in better shape than mine, so now I have a dilemma.....chase down a title for the parts car or swap everything over onto a rusty chassis. Decisions. The good news is now I have two G13B engines! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

The junkyard I bought my "new" Swift from is in Pueblo and they told me about a '57 MGA that they have. Evidently, it was completely stripped down years ago for a total resto project. The owner then died and this place has most of the parts as well as the title. I think the body/chassis is in a different place and they said that issue should be resolved soon. I can give you the contact info if you'd like.....he said they wanted $1500 for it. No idea if that is a fair price and I did not see the car. All I know is it is still disassembled, so you would get a car and lots of boxes of stuff.

Sorry, I don't see the decision, just swap the title and number plate. Now your good body is the driver and the other is the parts car.

Hey Mike!

How are you doing guy? Beleive it or not I am still dealing with problems on the interior parts for my car. Interior panels arrived and they are like three or four shades adarker red than the seat covers. Paul at SCC was very understanding and has been working with MOSS to get another set that all matches. He spoke to them this morning and they have arrived in CA so I may have all of it in a few days.

The $1500 MGA sounds good but what I really want is a "driver" as, honestly, I'd rather be the one who takes it all apart.

Jack has a good point about the Swift.... what killed the other swift, did the motor go south?

Jay

Believe me.....the thought has entered my mind about the VIN thing, but as Sebastian said, it's illegal and I don't want that kind of headache over what is essentially a Geo Metro (albeit with a big motor).

Jay.....a weak point on the G13B is the woodruff key on the crank. Evidently, they are prone to slipping/distorting. It starts with timing issues (which I had) and as long as you keep advancing the timing it runs until the key fails completely. Well.....the key failed completely. The crank spins freely from the crank pulley, so nothing moves (cams, etc.). I figured it would be easier to just swap in a good used motor instead of fixing it. I found one in Pueblo and offered to buy the whole car. They agreed and now I have two Swift GT's. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Bad news is even though it is in much better shape than mine, the motor has issues (no power) so it sort of defeats the purpose of buying it! I might just sell the pair off and buy one that runs right.

Good luck on the interior.....hopefully everything will match!

Tis only illegal if you get caught. Anyway I don't see a problem a car is a car.

thanks Mike,,,

Kinda broke my heart yesterday to have the day off with such gorgeous weather here in denver. Have all my wiring issues done and all is working correctly. Even have the 1098 running pretty well, yet, nothing to sit on to drive the dang thing. So,,, I went and got the elan out of the barn and thrashed the heck out of it for a nice hour or so.

Don't go and get rid of those 13GB motors yet,, I definately want one either for this Midget, or maybe even the MGA I want would do well with that motor connected to a 5 speed. 125hp is pretty easy out of those. Sidedraft manifolds are being made now too so you don't have to have them custom done like the bugzuki car. Also, quads4rods has a distributorless ignition thats pretty reasonable.

Two short peices of 2x4 a small peice of plywood and a pillow, bingo you have a seat.

Jack, you have all the right answers!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

A plastic "milk crate" and a pillow work well too. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
