I am a retired school teacher of 30 years and own 2 1976 MBG. The B1 had a melt down of the wire harness, and I discovered that a 78 and later harness was what burned; thus, I am not sure what it really is but VIN claims 75/76.

Recently bought another 76 MGB because it has several upgrades and new items (eventually I will have a complete car.) Currently I am experiencing a dilemma with my horns because a prior owner robbed power from the horns to install an electric fan and a relay. He/she powered the horn with power from the alternator and by cutting into the purple/black at the horn. I want to rewire the fan sensibly and return horns to original wiring. Plus, I am experiencing a voltage drain overnight and am researching how to find and fix it. Oops, I am going to learn how to strip and paint this car.

I an fairly handy with mechanics but electrical confounds me which you can see in my posts on MG Experience.

I am glad to be here as I am sure I will learn more and more, and hope I am posting this introductory in the correct place. Best wishes to all.

Welcome to the asylum!

I'm more of a TR guy and don't read the MG forum, so I'll answer here:
One trick that can help when chasing mystery drains is to connect a small 12v light (like a test light) between a battery post and it's cable. The light will glow if the drain is happening now (if it is enough to drain the battery overnight anyway). Now you can disconnect various things (perhaps starting with the fuses) and watch for the light to go out to find out where the problem lies.
