Ok now im completely stumped i put the original jets back and it runs just as crappy as with the new jets i think i found that my gasket between the carb and mani is not sealing 100% could this cause these issues? any other ideas or do i just take it into the shop to get it going again im really wanting it fixed buy Aug 11 for our club drive
I've had this same problem with mine. Mine was related to two different things, one being that my distributor got bumped and was not lined up correctly and the other being that the vaccuum line from the engine to the carb was not functioning properly. I changed that out and it helped quite a bit.
Keep in mind at least with my car and this carb that there is slight hesitation when you get on the throttle. Like a delay in fuel getting there or something. I have found with the car warmed up and by keeping the RPMs up I get the "quick" response and do not experience that delay.
Look under my name for some of my old posts with this problem, it was so comprable to what you are experiencing I wonder if those posts would be helpful?
Marc, it's highly likely the cork will be a problem. Those O-ring mounts are really the only way to do it. That has to be "Step One." Get the thing properly mounted and sealed.
Ok the new soft mount gasket is on and it doesn't seem to have changed much i think it idles a little smoother but still bogs out....... let me explain a bit better as to whats happening
if i just rev the engine it revs fine, but in gear trying to go it bogs out at around 2000 rpm and if i wait to long to let off the gas it dies im very frustrated at this point and am considering just taking it into the shop /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
ok well i got it back from the shop today when i paid them they said it was running "a lot better" i said ok and paid them and left as im driving away instead of bogging out at 2500 rpm it bogs out at 3500 rpm needless to say it runs no better then it did before my $111 bill. I called them when i got home and told them how upset i was all they could tell me was the carb was to big for the engine i told them that was a load of crap seeing as it was running pretty much ok before i put the new jets in. He had no reply other then bring it back in ill have a different tech work on it i wont charge you any more. So im going to give them one more chance......
i really need a DCOE guru to fix it but im thinking its going to be vary hard to find one
Ok so its back from the shop its driving better but no where near what i want it to do next i guess im going to check the distrib and make sure its functioning correctly Thank you all for you help..
Well its been quite some time sens iv done anything with my MG but im back on it now and here is the update i have replaced all internal wires in the distributor and have the jetting/choke at
Choke tube: 37MM it was recommended that i use a 34mm but it caused a lot of issues
Main jet: 140
Air correction jet: 200
Emulsion tube: F5
Pump Jet: 40
Idle Jet: 55/F9
Auxiliary Venturi: 4.5
so now im back to where i was maybe a little better the car is drivable no bogging out but still backfiring
the 34mm was choking it to much and causing it to run rich so iv put back the 37 and its running better
any other ideas that i could run with? or should i just get a weber down draft that my mechanic knows how to tune
