Daughter wrecked her car......

.....last night about 10.00PM. She's OK.
She had her 2007 Toyata Cyan on the I90 westbound tollway and hit a black pickup truck cap that was in the roadway.
Turned the left front quarter into shreaded plastic confetti.
What a pile of plastic junk so many of these newer cars are!
A car behind her also hit the thing, and maybe another car about 100 yards ahead that pulled over may have clipped it also, but they pulled away after a little bit.
Trooper was on site at the behind car when I arrived and came up to make out the incident report.
I was ready to drive the thing home but he wouldn't have any of that ( and I'm sure that was the right call) and we called for a tow direct to the body shop.
I speculate on how the Midget would have held up?
So far, about $5800.00 in repairs with a $ 500.00 deductable.
I guess she'll finally get that chip in the door panel repaired....

So glad she is fine - be thankful for shredded plastic confetti. That's what kept her safe, the car absorbing the impact.

Good point.
Point well taken.

Thank God she's ok! When you say "Pickup truck cap" I'm dense today, what does that mean? Hub cap? Gas cap? What was it exactly that she hit?

a cap that goes over the bed of a pick up truck

That would be the aluminum or fiberglass enclosure that sits
on the bed of a pickup truck.
Approximate size would be 5'wide x 2' tall x 8' long, with the
rear door that opens upwards.
Less, of course, any parts of it that fell apart from any previous
hits, if any.
As I was arriving on the scene I was looking for anything on the left side that she may have hit, and seen, briefly, some wreckage debri that I couldn't really identfy as I was driving past.
It was the State Police dispatcher, or whomever Monica was talking to when she called in that told her it was a truck cap.
I was walking back toward the inpact area with a flashlight to try to
see what it was when a Trooper, who approched me from the car that was pulled over about 100 yards behind us, pretty bruskly said " Sir, please go back to you vehicle and wait for me there."
He latter aplogized for being so abrupt.
I never got to see what was back there.

Silent,
Thanks for the photo. Thats what I was trying to describe.

picture is worth a thousand words...

Glad she's ok, but I'm still trying to figure out what a Toyota Cyan is. I've been a Toyota Tec since 2004 and I've never heard of one.

Oh my! No wonder it did so much damage! (Round here we call them toppers or shells)

That was the model they developed to replace the Magenta :jester:

He didn't want you to become roadkill.

That's very true.
Just doing his job and keeping things safe.
No argument there.

Ahhh a Scion. OK. Yup, smaller car. TC, XB or XD? (I think by 07 they quit making the XA). We have an 05 XB (even smaller than an 07 would be). Love it, but it would definitely take a beating if we were to hit a truck cap with it. Like all new cars, bumpers are plastic over styrofoam.

one of these?

No, the sporty one, a "TC".
Close, though.

Actually, they sure " sported up" that square box design on that model you displayed.

oh you mean this one
