Datsun yoke for 5 speed

So, Gerard, if there is a Nissan part number for the SA yoke I wonder how far from matching the BMC yoke it is.

The yokes I have are aftermarket and match the standard Nissan yoke cups, but I have the combo u-joints as well. I'm a little skeptical about the "SA" one being the same size since so many Datsun/Nissan ones are the same size (even modern applications). Seems odd that they would move away from a standardized part, but maybe "JohnDough" could shed a little more light, (i.e. pix) on it.

They were made till about 2008. many were used as light delivey vehicles and did see some milage. I bought mine and it only had 30 000km on and I think I paid R4000 which and the current rand/Dollar works out to $500. Since we drive on the left side all the gearboxes are of the clutch cable type and you need to drill a whole for the fork. it also looks like the starter might be at a slightly different position but it works.


After my rear end played funny games with me on the rally to Maputo I also noticed that I have a slight vibration. I also had a standard Sprite Propshaft as well as the one I had made up and measured when I originally fitted the gearbox.I had measured them and with the new yoke they were exactly the same length and the original prop I had used the same UJ

It's a pity this didn't come up about 3 months ago, I had both pieces in my hand and could easily take some photos. They go for about R350 = $40. I will try to take some from underneath. I'll attach some pics of the gearbox, this is actually one bought for another Sprite late last year

The biggest killer is transport but I'm sure if there is a bulk order one can make a plan. Most of the places are closed for our festive season but I can make some calls in the new year to see what the current prices are like. I also check if the local prop shaft place have the yokes and if they will allow me to take some pics of it.
 
Also keep in mind that out market is slightly different and the vehicle was in the budget work horse (maybe pony/small horse) sector and this required maintainability without changing whole sub assemblies and this might explain the use of replaceable UJ's .

Ah, yes... already knew of these trucks as I have heard from a couple people in South Africa wanting to buy one of my conversion kits. Originally I thought you were referring to passenger vehicles. The gearbox appears to be essentially the same, though I notice a few casting differences. The major difference is that the one supplied in these trucks (pictured) is a cable operated clutch, so some case modifications would be necessary to make it work in the Sprites or Morris Minor. I'm pretty sure the fork is different as well. Do you have any pix from the side and viewed into the bell housing? Also, if you get your hands on a yoke or U-joint, could you put some calipers on it and measure the diameters?

John, do you know if the " bakkie" ever got the Nissan A14 or A15 engine.
