Datsun with Triumph engine?

Datsun Pick-up

Is this an engine transplant or was there ever a Datsun that used a British motor? Looks like a cool car to me!

It has to be a transplant. I don't think the 1500 engine was available to anybody in 1964.

The ad says:

"MOTOR IS WORTH OVER $750.00. look it up!"

What planet does he live on?

I have a 1500 in my race car....not exactly a rare, valuable motor. :jester:

Got to be a transplant. There is a lot of irony with this transplant; I wonder if the Datsun motor went to a needy, OMG, I can't bring myself to ask it out loud.

The action begs the obvious question, "WHY?"

Well, if the Triumph was a rust bucket, but the drive train was still good..."WHY NOT?". Use what ya got layin' around. :driving:

Good answer. I guess that it just doesn't flow as easily as dropping a small block Ford or Chevy into a sports car. Odd to me, but it worked for him.

There is apparently a small, but fairly fanatic group of followers of those early Datsun pickup trucks. First time I ever saw one, it was on a trailer and the new owner waxed every bit as poetic as a Triumph owner about how wonderful it was and how he was going to restore it.

I believe the Datsun E series engines were pretty much a direct copy "A" series BMC in the sixties. Datsun/Nissan was a licensee of Austin Motor Co.(see wikipedia)That being the case it may have been an easy engine transplant.

hI HAVING OWNED A '64 SPL311& '65 Sport truck(baby elcamino), Datsun bought everything from Austin. First engines were 1200cc, than 1300cc. Had 4speed w/column shift.Su carbs etc. Finnally got rid of one setting in blackberries 4 months ago for 75$, had to have it gone
