Datsun Wheel Fit Problem

I bought a set of Datsun 280zx turbo alloy wheels to go on my TR6. However, when placing the wheel onn the hub I noticed that the Triumph wheel studs are now to short and don't protrude far enough through the wheel holes to get the wheel nuts on. The wheel seams to be much thicker than the old steel wheel. Also, the stud holes on the wheel are slightly bigger in diameter so the original wheel nuts wouldn't bolt on right anyway. I almost need a wheel nut that goes around the stud and through the wheel holes to make up the diameter or buy longer bigger studs.

Anyone know what the right answer is?

wheel studs are available at any parts store as are lug nuts. You don't need Datsun parts
 
Some chrome nuts do go through the wheel instead of up against the wheel. That's pretty normal for older mag wheels. Your problem will be finding the correct size of shank that fits your wheel holes and stud thread. Can you fit the studs from the model datsun the wheels came off of? Then you can use the Datsun nuts.

Hi Gary,

I had the same problem with the Alloy “Western Wheels” I put on my 78 MGB. I purchased these from a guy on Ebay who said that they came off of his old 280Z. And just like you I noticed that my wheel studs where too short and the holes on the wheels where too big.

But the answer was simple: Go down to the local Auto parts store & pick out a set of deep-set lug nuts. This worked fine and I didn’t have to change anything. The results where great – see picture:
