Wondering what brand/viscosity of gearbox oil that's used by you folks whose Spridgets may have the Datsun B210 gearbox.

I'm gonna drain and refill mine, just wondering what everyone uses.

Thanks!

AND, while I'm at it here, what brand/viscosity, etc., differential oil do you use.

I'm on a roll, ain't I?

Don't know what the people here will say but the people over on the Datsun forums have very strong opinions.
They say anything too modern will ruin the syncros and that you run the risk of leaks developing if you use synthetic.

80w90 gear lube GL4 but not GL5.

Here's a thread I started over there back in January:

https://forum.ratsun.net/showthread.php?t=9184&highlight=80w

Synchromax synthetic in the tranny, Royal Purple 80/90/140 in the final drive. As to the former - no leaks, smooth and quiet operation (I did rebuild the tranny before installation, all new bearings and seals, swapped the synchors around to get the best ones on 2nd and 3rd).

Most of the people I've heard talk about leaks say that it's the old seals that can't take the synthetic and putting in new seals before installing the box is the way to go.

I contacted Cason Racing in Raleigh, the shop that installed the Datson box in my Midget. He recommended Redline MTL or MT 60.

Said he used MTL in his racers and street cars, excellent results.

Sounds good to me.

Thanks for all the replies, guys!

Half GL5 80w90 and half GL1 140 wt. Datsun manual says to quiet your gearbox run heavy weight gear oil. I believe in warm temps there is no problem with straight 140. My mix is'nt enough. My tranny needs a overhaul!!
KA.

Well, here's an email reply I received from a proven speaker of sooth, Will Perry of Rivergate:

I suggest a full synthetic gear oil likr Mobil One or Valvoline in the Datsun 210 transmissions. The same oil works good in the differential also.

Thanks
Will Perry

He would know. :yesnod:
