Apart from the vinyl/foam support cover that can be used...has anyone come up with an alternative...powder coated...other ideas?

If originality is not a concern, the (different) TR4 support was finished in wrinkle black, which I believe can be done in a powder coat.

But, depending on where your knee (my right knee up here on top of the globe, possibly your left knee) appreciates some padding where it contacts the support. That may just be a function of how the LHD go pedal is placed.

Looks like you have hogged it out for a DIN radio. Where did you get the brackets, and how are they attached to the support?
I don't recall where, but I have seen other pictures of people's efforts to cover the support, with OEM-like material/looks.

I do have a vinyl/foam cover for the dash support, but it is not a nice neat fit.
Wrinkle black seems a good idea, that would hide imperfections in the cast alloy
Regarding the radio.......the outer frame comes with the radio.....I welded an aluminium 1" x 1/4" x 2" long tag onto the dash support on each side of the radio ....then flat head screws/bolts from the inside of the radio frame into the tags...that fixes the radio frame and therefore radio to the dash support.

Wrinkle black, Eastwood, local hardware, Summit Racing, Jegs, Roadster Factory just about anywhere.
