Dash Help

I have a 1979 mgb and I was wondering if it could be swapped with little or no modification to the older style dashes. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
RObert

I think your going to have a problem with where the switches and gages end up in the harness. I know you will need the earlier gages be cause the later ones are much smaller. Then you will have a problem withthe plug ins for the switches. You might be ok if you got a 73 dash harness. HMMMM that may work if you had all the right gages and switches.

Kinda sounds like a real pain in the rear.

Would be real cool though.

back to square one with the dash project

REAL PAIN! I know, I'm doing it...firewall has to change, supports have o change, cowl has to change...major work!

Little more than a weekend job then!

Thanks anyway. Post some pics when you get it done

Thanks

I have a 77B with a sick dash - after months of wishing I could find a better one I decided to modify it with some carbon fibre inserts - I also changed the gauges to Auto Meter white gages with red pointers and it makes the dash look awsome. If I knew how to insert pictures I would but if you want to see how it looks write me at poketohymie @msn.com and I will send you some pics

Hey Jim thanks for the pics. If you want me to and if I can figure it out,I can post them and put a link to them on here. I have a semi private hpphoto site. Let me know.

I've been playing with dashes way more than I care to admit lately... ANY dash swap is tougher than you think. The bigger the difference, the more nightmarish it gets.

Here's a fine point: The mount posts on late guages are threaded metric. pre-77 are all standard. Not that it matters, so long as you have the right gnurled nuts, it's just that there's A TON of little things like that. Different lights, different light sockets, differnt socket mounting systems. Different harnesses going to the whole shmear. On and on it goes.

And now for something completely goofy... I'm seriously considering making a full carbon fiber dash. I know I can, and I know how I'd do it, I'm just trying to decide if it's a completely dumb use of time and resources.
