Dash cover

I'm to the point of ordering the interior for my BJ7 (planning on Honey Tan). I've seen pictures of Healeys with black vinyl dash covers and non-matching color on seats, kick panels etc. Should the dash match the rest of the interior, or was there some "mixing and matching" when they came from the factory?

All the dash tops in BJ8's were black, as were all door top rails, from the factory. No mater what color the interior was. BJ7 not so sure about, being I have only done research on the BJ8 that I restored.

Some people, including me, have changed the color to match the interior. If you change the color, it will be noted that the car is now not "correct", given you're having the car judged.

The rest of the interior would have been consistant in the same color. Seats, side panels. The rug may have been a different color, in some models.

I remember seeing a chart that showed a breakdown.
Exterior color and interior options, for all models.
Maybe someone will provide a link to that?

You didn't say where you're getting the interior from. Most of the best looking interiors, IMHO, are the ones that PO's have varied from the original colors and created a stunning palate of contrasting piping and seat surfaces with varied carpet colors.

Bright dash tops can be "blinding" when the sun bounces off them. Black is the best and/or dark colors. See what your Interior shop recommends and suggests.

If you're making a car for Gold juding then that's a whole different issue, but it will also have to be perfect!

Do the car for "you".

My 63 BJ7 original dash was the same color as the interior as well as the door tops. The original body color was Florida Green with gray interior. The dash and door tops had been covered over with brown leather by a previous restoration. I was surprised to see the original dash vinyl in fairly decent shape. I have the gray interior complete to put it back to original. The body will be Aston Martin sage green however. I also have sales literature for a Florida Green BJ7 with the dash matching the gray interior and not black vinyl.

Thanks for the responses guys! I'll have to see if I can get additional material to match so I can recover the dash and door caps.
