dash bulbs

Can dash board light bulbs be had easy off the shelf somewhere? NAPA had nothing like them. I'm looking for the little screw base ones for the ignition warning light and high beam indicator.

I couldn't find them anywhere but through Moss

I think those bulbs are E10 base. Use the Google young Skywalker...

Well looks like all the same bulb for each gauge as per Moss but on my new harness the sockets with the prongs, that press into the back of the main gauges, are different, bigger "thread" area. What's up with that?

Jeff,

Here you go. The best price I have found on them.

Search Ebay Item 130252068905

The sockets on mine look bigger, but the threaded area is the same size. Should be the same on yours, unless some grafting was done.

Bryan

Thanks for the link. Okay, bulbs do fit in new sockets, took a bit of tweaking with a screwdriver and some convincing but they will thread in.

Hi guys,

Can I come over and play?
If you have Smith gauges like the ones I have in my Austin Healey, the bulbs are 12v 2.2 watt.

jvandyke your link above, Radio Snack.
14.4V 100mA incandescent flashlight bulbs. Wrong voltage.

I did a lot of research on this very topic of replacement bulbs.
Actually, it was about how to put a brighter bulb in.

You can purchase stock 12v 2.2 watt E10 base bulbs from British Car Specialists in Stockton California.

If you want a brighter bulb, 12v 5 watt E10 you can get them from Bulb Connection.com

If you want to change out your filament bulbs to led's then here's a link to my post on the Austin Healey side.

Thanks Roger, Very nice article. I book marked it for future reference.

I am very electrickity challenged but I thought a 14.4v bulb could handle that many volts, 12v should still light it fine? No idea how 100 mA relates to watts and all that.
Read the thread on LED conversion too, cool.
My situation is a bit unique in that my dash is 1" thick oak so the fuel and oil/temp gauges (that normally just get incidental light through their little blue windows from a bulb shining on the back of the dash) were not lighted at all.
Since I wanted to install a pointless ignition which led to converting to negative earth, which led to an engine bay clean up, which led to a full harness replacement which led to pulling the dash which led to re-doing the whole dash....I cut tunnels in the wood around the perimeter of these two gauges and am mounting the old harness's high beam warning and ignition warning lamps to shine into these tunnels. Works great but leaves me a couple bulbs short.

ain't that how it goes.... geez

I think my girlfriend just realized that about me & the sprite. We're getting close to her threshold I think.

Oh it keeps going too....led to seeing some rust under battery/heater box, led to touching that up, tearing down, stripping de-denting and powder coating the heater box...oh and the harness upgrade also led to headlight relay install and probably redoing the headlight harness.....and on and on.....having fun though.

funny, I've been described as a "couple bulbs" short also.... But that was not in reference to my LBC

I stopped by a Radio Shack on my way home and bought some of the above (or something similar) they work, a tad dimmer to the naked eye maybe. They'll do in a pinch if you lose a bulb on a trip or something.

Does Rad-Shack have a Halogen equivalent bulb??

...just a thought...

I don't know. The manager helped me. We talked about a brightness hit and he didn't suggest anything else but that doesn't mean much. I ordered the correct bulbs anyway and will keep these for some spares.
