I find it a bit amusing that the last one, who admits to being canadian, didn't know. But at the same time I wonder how many american students might not know the US capital or the state capital where they're from. Geography isn't considered a usable skill anymore.

"50 States - when did that happen?".I'm appalled by the knowledge of "College/University" graduates. It appears that,just because you graduated,that you have"Higher Knowledge". It's employee school, it's designed to select the most diligent and productive hamsters on the wheel and keep them there. It just shows you can meet deadlines, work under pressure and jump through hoops.

In their defence, and knowing that it is easy to take pot shots at higher education, a local TV station did a quick "outside poll" asking the capital of Ontario. Most said Ottawa (it isn't - it is Toronto) they were anticipating this result and were making a point.
1. When someone sticks a camera/microphone into your face you either a) go blank or b) say the first thing that jumps into your head.
to that I would add:

Having lived in the good old USofA I would say that international awareness is not taught as well as it could be - but that there is so very much to teach about the USA that part of that is understandable. (Same observation about news - was always amazed how little international news there was - but realized there was more than enough national news to fill the airwaves)
3. Yes, there is much to critique (and I really do believe that we have commodified our kids thinking only of their future economic value as we raised them) but, when you are in university you also specialize pretty quickly - you have to. I remember a few years reading that in the time of Jefferson/Washington/Franklin, a person could be a true "Renaissance man" because you could know pretty much all there was to know about everything in a lifetime.
4. Kids that age seldom know where anything is - including clothes, keys, money - and we didn't either, we just think we did.
and most importantly
5. The kids in the video were not the only kids they asked, they were the kids they edited. I get very frustrated that the "objective news" still always manages to show <insert name here> in the worst possible light. Proving people are ignorant is like shooting fish in a barrel - especially when you can edit.
I still generally find kids these days brighter, more aware and smarter than in my time. At the very least my kids learned in grade school what I learned in high school and in high school what I learned in University.
