darn annoying chirpy rattle - FOUND!!!

I've been driving with this really annoying rattle/chirp for several months now.
Today I decided I'd try and isolate / find / fix it.

Tools used:
orbital buffer
kitchen knife
piece of rubber from one of the kid's broken flip flops

I started running the orbital buffer over the hood, and sure enough I found a spot that would make the rattly chirp sound off. So I got the kid to hold it there while I gently pressed on areas until the sound stopped.
Then we opened up the hood to see what was special about that area.

AhA!! There's a rubber piece over in the channel on thd drivers side and that piece is missing on the passenger side.

So I slice up a flip flop & put a piece of rubber in the channel and close the hood - No more squeeky, chirpy, rattly noise - it's gone, it's finally gone!!!

Ok, so it was a good day out with the Midget today, actually got a few other things done too /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

....solving the problem and eliminating the rattle - priceless (you fill in the rest)

Can you do my Intrepid now? Have to isolate a squeek this PM

Isn't it nice to resolve an issue that might only bother you. I have had a small leak under the rear end from since I swapped pumpkins. A buddy and I fixed it on a really nice evening this last week with more than one brewsky consumed. The BE is nearly free from marking the floor now.

Funny, the origin of some of those noises. In disassembling my '62 Sprite in preparation for a Winter's worth of body repair I found the source of one such rattle. Between the driver's side wing (fender) and the inner fender is a gap of maybe an inch or so; perfect place for leaves, bugs, etc. to collect and rot out the lower sheetmetal. Upon removing the wing I found an 8" Crescent wrench, along with the other expected debris. It will go, unrestored, into the archives for the project.

PS - I found, after the fact, that one of those magnets on the flexible rod will just reach down into the cavity...might save someone the trouble of removing the wing...or permanently losing a wrench, screwdriver, etc.

So here is the thing on the drivers side - what is this thing called?

Here is my temporary fix, I'd like to get new ones - gotta find out what they are called I suppose:

they are in the Moss and VB catalogs.

That was incredibly fast guys!
Thanks!

New question (sort of):
Would ones off an MGB work? I can find them on ebay, but no Midget units.

Great sleuthing and an amazing fix ...an old flip flop! nice!! As far as that old rusty wrench..could it be a Craftsman?? If so go get a nice new one at Sears! lol

Not positive as I am not that familiar with Bs, but generally that kind of stuff is pretty interchangable on LBCs!!

Ok, just bought a pair on Ebay for a total of $5.95 shipped.
Now we will see if they are interchangeable /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

They only about 12 bucks.

The parts were received yesterday.
The MGB part fits but the rubber is too thick, quick work with the knife and a perfect fit achieved.
Another job well done. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
