Perfect day up here and most likely the last time this place will see 60 degree temps till April and low and behold the clutch system goes belly up.

I had some issues yesterday with hard shifting while stationary and the clutch engagement point moved closer to the floor. I figure the was air or moisture in the line as it's been god knows how long since its been flushed. Clutch hydrolics were the only working system when I picked up the car. Went to bleed the lines and had no luck getting fluid to flow. Even with vacuum on the bleeder I could not get the fluid to flow. Since I was down there I went ahead and changed the slave cylinder and am I wrong in thinking that the master has gone to the great MG graveyard or could it be something else?
 
Possibly bad MC, or old decaying clutch hose. Loosen the hose at the end closest to the MC and see if you can pump fluid out.

Coincidentally I just drove 80 miles home without a clutch. There was just enough there to get the car off the line. A very leaky hose was my problem.
 
I'm I wrong in thinking that the starter has to be pulled to change out that hose? Last time I did one the engine was out of the bay and it only took a minute to change out.
 
You can do it under car without pulling starter
 
Old hoses collapse, and need replaced. Bleeding masters is an issue we all have had to deal with. I have taken an old line, cut it about a foot long, carefully bend it in a circle, and use it to bench bleed my masters in place. Simply install it so that it returns to your resevoir(under the fluid level) and pump. It will remove any air, then reinstall your line to the slave and bleed.
 
It's fixed and working great. It was the hose which quite possibly was the original hose from the factory. Replacing it was a major pit royal tucas. Not much room down there to move a wrench.

Clutch now works fantastic and at first I thought I had a transmission full of bad sychros but now I know it was the clutch.

Also I used the eezie bleed that uses tire pressure to bleed the clutch and man I must say that thing is SLICK. Worked fantastic and made it a very quick job to flush and bleed the clutch hydraulics. Wish I had it when I did the brakes as it would of saved a ton of pumping.

I'm glad it is done and isn't it nice. Sometimes the fix is embarasing in its simplicity, when you see it, you think?????????? why didn't I see that before.

Dang it all over again. Put on my winter parka fur hat though being a die hard California native still wore shorts and fired the beast up after doing a compression check 130/140/130/140. It was about 30 degrees out but otherwise nice. Had a bear of a time getting it out of the garage and it felt like the parking brake was on which was interesting since it doesn't work yet. Get out and low and behold 2 flat tires at opposite corners grrrr. Brand new tires with about 100 miles on them.

This all figures make good progress and poof something has to spoil the fun. Maybe my 75 is playing with a 73 mgb voodoo doll.

The only good thing to come today was in the mail from my insurance company. Thanks to adding the B on to my regular insurance in ND dropped my rate from 450 for 6 months for full coverage to 350 for my xterra and the B with the xterra now being 280 and the B being 70. Should of insured it the second I got the vin.

Stewart, if you don't mind... What insurance company is that?
State Farm thinks they are going to get rich off of me (apparent from the $220 / month bill I just got). I strongly disagree with them of course. This isn't even for full coverage, in fact only liability, UI and PIP on my LBC's.

Hagerty is great and I use them for the 75b but if I change over the 73b I lose the multi car discount. When and if the 73 is ever finished and actualy worth anything then I'll switch it over.
