So i got my new weber and header from brit tek today. old stuff came out no problem had the of exhaust out in a few minutes. however when putting the new header on i broke a bolt off inside the block. now its going to take me alittle longer than i thought to have it road ready again. question is, is there a easy way to remove the bolt.

Hi MGb 80, there is a tool called an "Easyout" that may get you out of trouble.---Fwiw--Keoke
 
Any autoparts store or sears tools, etc etc.
 
You just have to be be able to drill a hole in the bolt, then an EZout will remove it - with a bit of help from you! Instructions come with the tool.

Another 'angle of attack' is to get a bit the same size as the one in the extraction tool, except a "left cutting" or "reverse cutting" type... some times just reverse direction drilling of the broken stud will simply unscrew it. Granger's and/or NAPA will have the bits. And center punching the broken stud is important either way. So is PB Blaster.
 
I would use the left hand drill bit. "Easy Outs" by nature are tapered & have to wedge into the drilled hole to grip. This just expands the bolt tighter into it's threads. EO's are also very brittle & easy to break off in the bolt. Makes an even bigger problem.

If it's a super critical bolt/stud.....

I use the appropriate size drill bit to tap, a say 1/4"x 20 TPI bolt in a 3/8" stud hole.
Center punch and go STRAIGHT down the center.
(like Dr E says)
Then I find a LEFT handed tap (1/4" x 20) & try and tap it like normal.
(sometimes this will remove it as suggested above)
Last thing is a left handed bolt screwed into the other bolt that has a sleeve on it.
(so it will stop before bottoming in the blind hole)

After all that....It's PB blaster, heat & a rechargeable impact wrench set on "stun".
(over a number of days)

Sounds like a lot of work but, so is earning the money to replace a VERY expensive head. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Brtter than PB blaster or anyother penetrating oil, heat the stud and surrounding area with a propane tourch (this will take awhile on the head), then touch a candle or parafin wax to the junction of the bolt and the head. The wax will be pulled in along the threads by capaliary action. I use this method when trying to get fasteners that have galled in aluminum castings backed out. I have yet to have it fail.
