Dan Master Wires and the Crypt Car

Well, finally some good new concerning the Crypt Car.

Most of you know I have been struggling for 4 months now
to replace 100% of the wires in my 69ish TR with the
splendid Dan Masters wire harness.

But it was simply beyond my limited capability. So
Dan's son Mike is graciously arriving at the San Juan
airport this afternoon to spend a week with me fixing
all my mistakes and getting all the wires functional.

Anticipating a successful week, I replaced the PO battery
(375 amps, $29 special)with a new 825 cold crank amp model
listed for TRs.

I know many folks have all kinds of problems installing new
wires in their old Brit cars.

During the week, as Mike works thru the wire install,
I will post some how-to photos back on this thread.

If all else fails, Mike and I have already decided to
switch out the Crypt Car headlights for two nice, electric
plastic pumpkins. The Crypt Car will look great for
Halloween one way or the other.

Dale, It's 10/1 and I just got back fom the Cape. What's happening with Mike and the wire harness? I thought you might have more pics by now.

Is t easier to run the wire with the dash in and the gauges out. Makes sense in the fact yo know where every thing ends at. I think I will take all the gauges out and just lay the dash in its location and try it.

Paul, welcome back-

A bit of a cluster fluck with Mike's arrival on Saturday
evening.

His connecting flight kinda broke down in Miami so
he arrived a bit late. Then American Airlines lost
his friggin luggage with clothes, tools, etc.

So we just hung out Sunday eating, drinking and having
a good time doing tourist things. Went to listen to live
band Colombia music last night.

Stuff finally arrived so today we begin work on the Crypt car.

PS for DNK- First wire your dash up OUTSIDE the car on a
stand. "Dry" wire all the connections and lights; check to
see that everything works properly. Then take the gauges
and switches out to work with the wires behind the dash.

Sounds like an expensive house call, I guess if you live in an Island paradise people are more willing to come. Now come to think of it I have a nice view of the Atlantic Ocean from both my garage windows; think I could get an expert body man to come by to admire the view & bring his torch!

Just got a call from the island of Puerto Rico. Things are moving along smoothly, and the boys are making progress.

Under the tutelage of a Master, how could we expect any less?

They had a contest recently where the First Prize was one week in Louisiana, and the Second Prize was two weeks in Louisiana.

(I know that is an old one but it just fit...)

Awesome!!! A 100% successful, upbeat day.

Master Mike did a QA on the Power Block,
(damage assessment actually!). Mike
quickly put together a game plan and path
forward. Muchos instrucciones on wiring theory
and installation technique.

Order began to take shape from chaos. The wire
clutter became wire bundles behind the dash area.
The front end wires began to meet up with the
rear end wires.

Mike's goal for today was 100% functional exterior
running lighting with proper connections and tight
QA.

5:30 PM this evening, Mike connected the new battery,
Dale threw the column mounted light switch and behold...

THERE WAS LIGHT

Front end and rear end, high beams and low beams,
running lights, markers and license plate lights.

Totally AWESOME day !! I toiled for 4 months with little
success and in one single day Mike Masters has the Crypt
Car 50% toward being cranked up and street legal.

Thanks Mike, Thanks Dan !!!

Tomorrow- turn signals, brake lights and the
dreaded dash.

Enjoy the photo attached

Sounds to me like "Mad dogs and Georgians out under the tropical sun"
This is very entertaining to say the least!
Tinster, Is your significant other videoing the proceedings or has she left while the wires are flailing?

Update of the Crypt Car wire harness:

2:00 PM and we are taking a food break.
All exterior lights including turn signals, emerg.
flashers and brake lights fully functional.

Ignition switch and cut out switch installed and proved.

The Crypt Car attempted to start!!!! Actually cranked over a few times before we cut off the key.

A sucessful day. Off to find my buddy with the carb knowledge to final install Jeff's carbs.

Crypt Car might be functional by end of day!!

regards,

dale and mike and wendy in raining like a banshee puerto rico.

Tinster, your posts are the most fun to read, I really enjoy them!
I remember your initial disappointment well, but with the expert help you are getting your car is going to be terrific, and you will gain skills and information you would not have dreamed of before the TR6.
What a great hobby!
Simon.

Re: HELP! I NEED SOMEBODY... HELP! NOT JUST ANYBOD

Back to basics guys. If you're not getting any gas, start at the beginning. Is there gas in the tank?? Disconnect the fuel line from the carbs, and crank the engine to see if the pump is working. If that's OK, hook the line back up and see if the fuel bowls fill up. If the fuel bowls are full, then for some reason the fuel isn't being sucked into the engine. Is there a massive vacuum leak?? Lift up the pistons in the carbs to see if maybe the needles came loose and are blocking the jets. Just keep looking, this has got to be something really stupid. And check that intake system again to be sure something isn't stuffed in there.
