Damaged a major part?

In trying to install a new spin on oil filter head the oil return tube from the filter head to the block twisted and cracked. Moss part number 136 listed under "External Engine 948-1098" "Pipe, oilfilter head to block" N/A. It looks like a similar pipe is used on the 1275 but the attachment configuration to the filter is different. I went to Advanced Auto to see if they had something similar in braided stainless but no luck. Anyone know of a source or have one they would part with? Going to a swap meet tomorrow maybe I'll get lucky? Dead in the water without this item.

I am sure you will find one somewhere but I did the same thing about a year ago. My fix was to add an oil cooler. "What was I supposed to do?" I told my wife. The part I needed wasn't available and I showed her the oil has to get from here to there. :winner1:

Do you have good pipe at each end?
If so you could go to a place that stocks hydraulic quality hose and get a piece and clamp it in place.
The right kind of hose will be expensive per foot, but you don't need much.

Oh yeah, I spent much of my youth around large tractors...

Ditto :yesnod:

At the moment that is not a possibility!
Same difference though, the car does not run?

If no one on this board has a spare (sorry... I don't have one) you may want to post this question on Mini Mania. There are several Ohio Mini owners and a few of them are the likely to have some old A-series blocks around to salvage parts from.

So you can't use the ends of the pipe you damaged? How about at least the banjo end? If you at least have the banjo end you could make a hose assembly using an AN fitting at the filter head end. Summit sells the hose and AN fittings but they will not have a banjo fitting that large.

I've welded up quite a number of steel hydraulic lines and I would repair it. Depends on where it broke but I would guess in the flair nut end. If so a decent ag supplier should have a end that could be adapted and welded on. if anywhere else the welding job would be simple. I usually make up a sleeve for any splice and braze weld.
If I had the time I might be able to part with the part you need since I have an oil cooler I've been going to fit. Which line do you need? 1275 or 1098 cannister.

Mark,
Let me look when I get home tonight. I have a spare, but it's for the original cartridge-style (would that work?) Yours if it will work..and I can find it

Hey this is what I have, when I converted to a spin on filter my kit came with a new flexible hose, so I don't need this anymore. It's off of a 1098 engine. If you want it email me at johnnyo513@msn.com and give me your address and I'll send it out to ya...

Thank you all very much for your replies and offers, I was fortunate to go to a swap at Riverside Motors in Delaware, Ohio on Saturday and my and owner Bob Forsblom and Peter came through. It is great to have people like Bob and Peter who are so knowledgeable about our hobby and are willing to share their expertise and remove parts from their future projects to help another hobbyist out, just like the people here on BCF.
Thank you,
Mark
