Anybody know if the steering parts on an SP250 are the same as those in a TR3?
As part of my deconstruction of the car, I removed the steering column and find that the oil seal just under the rocker shaft/cam lever is leaking. There also seems to be some play in it and I was contemplating a rebuild ( new cone, seals, gaskets etc) , but it would be nice to be able to get parts locally (ie moss motors). Also, if the chrome shroud for the adjustable steering is the same, it would save me re-chroming. As long I am at it, if they are the same as the tr3, I would order the tapered bushings in the newer material (stainless and delrin as opposed to the silentblock) from moss.
Also, were these parts originally painted? I see some blue paint on the (bottom)steering box cover and there are traces of yellow on the front cover which I have seen on old internet pictures. Outer column I can see was black (semigloss?) but can't tell if the drop arm and nut were painted (or the center tie rod).
Spent hours getting the steering apart, out and de greased.....want to put it back once and correct.
Thanks,
josh
