Well, I rebuilt the rail Saturday with Teflon tape and it still leaks slightly, more like a light sweat really. I think the fittings are bottoming out in the rail before they seal properly (they are ¼” pipe thread, so there is a taper). I cut about 3/16” of thread off the ends, mixed up some Marine Tex and reinstalled the fittings. We’ll see how that works. Stuff will be cured this afternoon, but it is raining so I’m in a holding pattern.
Center carb overflow tube had a constant flow, not good. Pulled that carb, opened the float chamber. Let’s see, aluminum oxide, rust, green stuff (copper carbonate?), oh, and little pieces of metal, nice. The accelerator pump orifice was mostly clogged with gunk and the jets weren’t great either. I wound up getting a new body and transferring the custom parts from the 1st carb to the new part. I guess the airfilter arriving early wasn’t a good omen after all.
