TR2/3/3A Dads TR3 way back in 1960

Picture of my Dads TR3 in Montrose Mi in 1960 or so. My grandfather Dr. F.A Boudreau is the one in the picture.

Dad sold the car and bought a Corviar in 1963.

All I have are 2 pictures of the car.

I wonder if the michigan license plate MU 2533 could be traced to get the vin and such.. It would be interesting if the car were still on the road.

I have a 1960 that is still in the restoration phase and will be posting some photos as soon as I make room for it in my new garage.

How DOES somebody track down a car a family member used to own? I have often wondered this myself.
 
I know that Arizona told me they could get me some of the history of my car through the Department of Transportation, but they only go back so far based on computers. I am not sure if there is any practical way to go through license plates, especially in the paper trail method...

The Corvair is an excellent snow car.

Geez, how young ARE you? and don't you HAVE snow in Wisconsin?

Back in 1958, when dad bought his new Triumph 10, it was his car for commuting, etc., and it was a year-round car. So was the '64 Herald convertible that replaced it.

Funny thing... the local gas/service station guys couldn't easily find 5.20 x 13 snow tires. The closest they could come up with were 6.00 x 13 (Valiant/Falcon size) Armstrong Norseman snows. They were great, but they did give a bit of a "rake" to the car. Actually, with that bit of rear-end lift, we fit right in with all the kids in their old Chevies with the jacked-up rear ends. But that car did pretty well in the snow. So did my Herald and the Spitfire Mk3 that replaced Dad's Herald.

Now the GT6+ was another story. At one point, I did break down and buy some pretty good snows, but that only took the GT6 from impossibly bad to merely almost worthless. Too low, and too much power.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

My supervisor once bragged to me that his Opel GT was better than my TR3A. So I invited him over to my place for a beer that snowy night and led him up the steepest hill I could find ... he never said another word about his car being better ! (Never got the beer either)

The TR actually did pretty good in the snow (as long as it wasn't too deep) with those skinny tires and the engine so far back.

The part I don`t understand is; How did he keep her so clean & shiny? Was she just picked-up that day?

Oh, yeah...my TR3A. Not good at all in the snow. But then, mine had oversize (6.85 x 15, as per old Volvo wagons) bias-ply Dunlops on it, and the rears were at least half-worn as well. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif
