That is *fascinating*. In some of the examples it sounds like a string quartet. I had no idea he'd designed a musical instrument. Thanks for posting.

Here's a similar instrument using that design, built several years ago by Obuchi:

 
Amazing! Would love to see more of the workings of the instrument.
 
Sort of like a medieval hurdy- gurdy, I think. Looks like the strings are in contact with a wheel to make the string vibrate, the keys to stop for changing pitch.

So many of Da Vinci's drawing have never been built. I was at an exhibit of his inventions then realized that I was looking at a scale model- actual size was about ninety feet. The was the "parachute," believe.

There are dozens of semi-realized inventions by Da Vinci in the home where he died in Amboise, France. It's an interesting place to visit. Most everything is made out of wood.
