Ike and Walter Cronkite visit the Normandy beaches, twenty years after the landings. I respected - and still respect - both of those men.

I remember watching that broadcast with my mom and dad, back in '64.

There are celebrations of the June 1944 Allied invasion all over France today. Are there celebrations here in the USA?

I was thinking this morning that D-Day was 80 years ago, and I left active duty 50 years ago. That makes it seem that D-Day wasn't that long ago.

Same thought here, John. My DD-214 says May 1974.

I got to go to Kitty Hawk and document the 70th anniversary celebration of the Wright Brothers' December 17th, 1903 flight. That First Flight even seems like a "recent" event.

And I'm lucky. My Old Man landed at Utah on day two with his anti-aircraft gun crew.
