While I have my Block torn down to replace the bad rod and shave the head I figure nows a good time to be proactive and install new rings. Cylinder walls are in good shape I just ordered some new deeves rings and wondering what the thoughts are on cylinder honing. Iv'e always used those spring stone hones on small engines but all the books alway reference the flex dingle ball hones. I was going to pick one up but there are three grits avaialbel as well. Whats best?
 
As long as there's no cylinder wear the "dingleberry" ones work well. #180 would be my choice. Slow speed and go for a 45* angle cross-hatch by moving the thing in and out as it goes 'round, same as a stone hone. Good amount of oil as well.
