Cylinder head question

On my (MG-powered) Courier there is a diamond-shaped plate on the right side of the cylinder head between spark plugs #'s 2 and 3, secured to the head by two bolts.

Is this a port to the water passages and would it be a good place to mount a high-temperature contactor switch?
 
Could this be where the heater control valve mounts? If so, it is not tapped inside, but if you could modify the plate covering the hole to accept a sender, you could hook a gauge there, and not in the front of the head.

This is assuming that it is a head for a B series engine of course.

It is a B series engine, and yes I meant between plugs 3 & 4. The autometer senders generally use 1/4" npt and it should not be difficult to tap the plate or weld on a fitting, etc.

As an aside, Michael: The blanking "plate" on an Alfa waterpump (to seal off the mechanical tach drive on earlier engines) is a VERY close match for that thing. A bit of knobbling of the bolt holes lines one up just fine, in case you need spares..

I use the standard MGA elbow that is on the other end of the heater system.

Then you get the water temp leaving the radiator.
(as recommended)

The elbow has 5/8" bsp threads.
(I think)
Anyway...It is a common size Lucas fan switch.

Dime a dozen and a easy fit.
