Cylinder head identification

I have a cylinder head that I intend to modify to give my Herald 12/50 a little boost. It is part#507170. I can't find it listed in any of my parts or reference books. Anyone have a clue as to what it's original application is?
Thanks
Mike C

Mike nice to see you back, Merry Christmas. I'm sure Rod agrees.

It is the casting number that I am referring to. I will look for a stamped number tomorrow. Thanks for correcting me.

the stamped number on the head is 514384. the number on the head currently in the Herald is 511538. Engine #GD25507HE. My Herald parts factory catalogue does not list either head. Canley Classics shows both part numbers "not available" but gives no application. Rimmer doesn't recognize either number. My intention is to gas flow a head and raise compression ratio to 9to1. Just looking for any specs or application for either head. Any help appreciated.

Something tells me, Mike, that the 511538 head you have on the engine now is the one you want to use. I seem to recall that being a popular head amongst Spitfire racer types, and that seems to bear out as it is the number on two "prepped" heads I have, one of which is on my ex-GP SCCA Spitfire 4 and the other a spare that came with the car many years ago.

I can ask around for more info on that head if you like.

Andrew,

I found one hit on the stamped head number 514384 and Spitfire and it turns out to be an old post from you in 2003.

Spitfire 514384 head

Thanks for the reply. I suspect that the 514384 head currently in the beast is the twin carb variant used on Herald 12/50 and Spitfire4. For all I know the other head may be off an Amphicar. Bought it cheap on ebay. It was listed as a Herald/Spitfire head. It is in very good condition but with out knowing a specific application I am reluctant to use it. Scott, thanks for the heads up (no pun intended) on the old post.
